Olayioye “Yoye” Simoyan’s music is a blend of spoken word, afro beat, hip hop, soul and Naija pop under the self-titled genre of isi-ewu & champagne. Thanks to his Diplomat of a mother, Yoye is well travelled: from Lagos, his birthplace, to Australia, Germany, Philippines and England.
Poetry and drawing were his childhood chores. Yoye was a regular at DJ Jimmy Jatt’s studio, in the nineties, dubbing songs on cassettes. He would correct the lyrics to what he felt sounded better; doing full remixes most of the time.
In oh-nine, a remix of Asa’s Bibanke got on radio, it caught fire and received rave reviews in and around Abuja; that was him. He later released GoldMind, an original that performed better than his Bibanke remix. It topped the charts and was number one for six weeks on Cool FM, Abuja. He became a household brand synonymous to a dapper sense of style and electrifying performances. Yoye is also affiliated to G.A.P (Guild of Artiste and Poets).
There was a rumour that he was signed to Audu Maikori’s Chocolate City, he insists that it never materialised into a deal. Mr Maikori remains a big brother and mentor to this artist. Several other offers have also come his way but Yoye created Kings Heights.
In twenty-ten, Osaze “Sazzy” Omobunde of “Sazzy and DJ Atte” fame died of sickle cell anaemia. Sazzy was his best friend and Producer. This prompted him to move back to Lagos, into Ajegunle, the only place he could afford. A provision made possible by Mr Aro Leonard of the BBC.
In Lagos, he was called into a collective of creative artistes from performing, visual and digital arts; Media, Fashion and Finance. JUNGLE TRIBE is the name.
JUNGLE TRIBE and KINGS HEIGHTS presents His Royal Artist, Yooooooyeeeeee, and na him real name, haaayyybbbaaa!!!
