The “Paper Planes” rapper made headlines after slamming the pop superstar in a 2010 interview with NME. “She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music,” she told the magazine. “She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fu**ing do.”
But despite her venomous words, M.I.A. extended an olive branch to Gaga by inviting her to visit WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during her trip to London this week.
“if ur at harrods today, come visit Assange at the Ecuador embassy across the st. im there. ill bring TEA and CAKE,” tweeted the Sri Lankan activist.
Gaga showed up much to the surprise of M.I.A. “MY MIND IS SERIOUSLY BLOWN! THNK U FOR THE VISIT! IM GLAD THAT WE CAN TURN ALL THIS BAD PRESS BEEF AROUND AND MAKE IT POSITIVE ♥☮,” wrote Maya.
Afterwards, M.I.A. posted a tweet about the state of journalism to which Gaga responded, “well said. Perhaps you and i can make peace through our shared compassion for others. Cheers.”
